Achievement

Established a new service engineering operation. Negotiated contract for facilities, purchased plant & equipment, recruited competent workforce resulting in the successful scheduled launch at an attractive cost base.

Challenge

My client was trying to establish a new service operation in a Greenfield site but their project was out of control with costs escalating and the scheduling slipping. I was approached to turnaround this project.

Action

I started by assessing the extent of the damage by reviewing all aspects of the project, investing time with the key stakeholders and developing relationships with the project team. On identifying the root causes of the projects problems I developed a series of recommendations which I shared with the key stakeholders and gained their approval and support. This support involved their participation on a weekly project board. Next I worked with the project team to produce a project plan which would deliver the three key work streams: Facilities, Equipment and Staff to the original deadline. On gaining approval from our Project Board I steered the project to completion using tight control and monitoring techniques keeping the Project Board informed and involved at all times.

Result

I delivered the project to the original date and within costs. The facilities lease was renegotiated and attracted some funding. I ensured that the plant and equipment was delivered on schedule and negotiated more favourable cost of ownership with a 50% reduction in maintenance and spare parts costs. I also managed the recruitment process, rationalising the number of providers to the favoured by initially more expensive provider but negotiated a rate reduction in line with the budget.
